These images on canvas of sensuous women and men represent works from 2005 - 2007. Szurants metaphoric soul searching images are bold and provocative combined with a deep sense of feminine sensitivity. The imagery of man and women in simple stylized brushstrokes will grab you and occupy your mind.

 

 

 

 

 

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Creating art through my personal individual development and understanding of what it means to be an artist today is expressed in my work. I am inspired by two dimensional planes and my process is working with traditional painting tools.

My style is shaped by an exuberant play with color and composition. This serves an overall pose for the viewer to be captured by my paintings at a glance. My images are a conscious explanation between my ideal vision of the object and the objects reality. They are realized by connection from the bold use of color and structure. This creates the energy I am feeling while developing each painting.

BIOGRAPHY:

Anna Szurant, born in Poland in 1977 was raised in Brooklyn New York and studied fine arts at Kingsborough Community College. She focuses on oil painting yet freely moves in and out of many artistic fields. Anna's work can be both figurative and abstract. She paints with a figure in mind, creating an image embedded within the figure.

Anna encourages her viewers to find the figure within her pieces but also to use their own interpretation of what the figure could be illuminating. She grabs her images by the colors she uses. They are warm and inviting but not so comfortable that you can disregard them.

The colors also do a great job of capturing and creating the mood and emotion of the subject. "Flash and Passion" are good examples of this. Anna currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, producing paintings to be exhibited this year.
